Plus you can use any pickup position for the guitar sound if you are using the same output for synth and guitar. I highly recommend built-in midi pickups over the GK-3 I've used both, and the built-in tracks much better. I've gotten into the habit of recording each part I play using the GR-33's internal sounds on a midi track as well, though, so that I can edit out any extraneous midi events that creep in then I send the edited track back through the GR-33. It has worked out fairly well considering it has some quite usable sounds. Depends what I'm using the GR-33 to play. I get round the pitch bend thing by editing those events out, or sometimes I leave the smaller ones if I feel it affects the "feel". The GR-33 doesn't have all that capability it's basically the GR-20 with the ability to edit and store user sounds. The Axon looks like a nice unit probably what I'd go for if I have to replace my GR-33 and/or get some extra money in. The MIDI guitar works wonderful in tracking and I think that my guitar parts (MIDI) sound quite convincing using these techniques. use a STRAT instead of the Les Paul or have an ES175 sound on a track (without owning the actual guitar). Simple answer, I can replace my guitar parts with a complete different guitar this way. So, the obvious question why not just record the audio of the guitar in the track. This technique sounds exceptionally good doing chord work. But as guitarists know, there are 2 or 3 ways to play a given pitch on a guitar depending on string and position and each one sounds different. So, I need to load in 6 sample programs for each guitar I have in my MIDI tracks (one program for each string). I have also sampled my own guitars up the fret board. The LPC (DI) sound has sample programs for KONTAKT that have sampled one string up the fret board. I have focused on using guitar samples that have sampled one string up the fret board. the other artics I need to load a sample set (for example, muted guitar).

I use a AXON 50 and a Shadow Ghost MIDI pickup built into a GODIN LA guitar.
